Top 10 Black Hollywood Movies of All Time

Top Black Hollywood movies of all time

Alright, as you can tell by the title, we're talking movies today y'all! And over here, we stan for Black Hollywood ALL the way. There's just something about them that hits home. We know, we know... everybody doesn't share the same sentiments, and yes Tyler Perry movies can be somewhat predictable, lol. But He's a billionaire with a B, so he sure is doing something right. Comment below on how you feel about our cousin Mr. Perry.

Tyler Perry aside, there are some really dope classics out there that will never go out of style and can be watched over and over again. And it's some of these classics that we want to share with you today. We compiled a list of our Top 10 Black movies just ahead of the weekend in time for you to choose which one you're going to reminisce to Saturday night. (I mean seeing how Corona has us in the house anyway).

In no particular order of preference (it was too hard y'all, lol):

Black Love:

Love & Basketball

We don't care what anybody says, any best Black Hollywood movie list that doesn't include Love & Basketball is automatically trash and disqualified. Their judgment just can't be trusted if they don't acknowledge this love story.

Brown Sugar

Sanaa Lathan strikes again in this other classic love story alongside Taye Diggs, set to the tune of some of our favorite music.

Waiting to Exhale

Speaking of music. Hands down, THE best movie soundtrack to ever hit our CD players; where you don't even want to skip not ONE song. Babyface just gave us ALL the sauce on that album. And although love didn't quite work out the way it should've romantically for these characters, celebrating the sisterhood love is just as important.

Black Brothas:

Juice

Definitely a tragic one, and as sad as it is, it's a good one. Certainly Tupac's best performance in our opinion. And as much as we're a sucker for happy endings, that's just not how the chips fall sometimes.

Boyz 'N the Hood

In the spirit as Juice, young boys coming of age and the struggles they face growing up in the hood, however, this one with a glimpse of hope at the end.

Friday

The struggles of life in the hood set to a more comedic tone which we ain't mad at. Cause who doesn't love a good laugh.

Black Music:

The Five Heartbeats

There's just something about this story that touches our heartstrings. Music is such a huge part of the Black culture, and although the time period the movie is set in, shows the struggles of overcoming racial segregation, it's still a great story about friendship

Ray

What can we say? Jamie Foxx DID THAT! A beautiful portrayal of the life, struggles, and triumphs of "The Genius".

The Color Purple

Nuff said, lol. No, seriously...everyone should watch it at least once. Even if just to say you've watched it. Another gut-wrenching movie about the plight that African-American's have endured. But a beautiful reminder that Black people somehow are still able to come out smiling.

Black Panther

A category of its own caliber, and an instant classic as the first Black Marvel superhero.

To end off, we want to bring to your attention and encourage y'all to catch the newest addition to the Black Hollywood lineup of movies, and that's the action thriller ‘Without Remorse’ which premiers Friday, April 30th starring Michael B. Jordan. Jordan is said to have revealed in previous interviews that he wanted to pay homage to 'Mission: Impossible' and 'The Bourne Identity with this project as he loved both action flicks when he was growing up (source). With a description like that, how can you not watch?

He's apparently also said he hopes that the movie can be the start of a franchise (similar to Bourne perhaps). And if that's the case, you wanna hop on the train from jump so you don't have to play catch up when (if) the next installment hits the big screen. Catch the movie on Amazon Prime Video.

'Til tomorrow,

Grace & Peace!
